Beginners, experienced skaters, and referees all welcome.
Want to join Nickel City Roller Derby?
Skaters and referees of any gender over the age of 18 can join NCRD. To practice roller derby with the team, skaters must either complete our Skating 101 program or pass a skills test to qualify for full-contact roller derby. Any body type, fitness level, skill, or experience is welcome. NCRD accepts anyone willing to put time and heart into roller derby. We will work with you to gain endurance, strength, and balance.
Skaters from other leagues are welcome to join our practices.
Are you a beginner with little skating experience?
You can join our learn to skate program called Skating 101. Once you complete the program you can join in our roller derby practices.
Referees will also go through basic and intermediate roller skating skills training.
If no Skating 101 practices are ongoing, and you still wish to join our league contact us to coordinate additional training.
TESTING
After the 16 week training process, skaters must pass minimum requirements physical and written tests. These tests are governed and set by the WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association).

If you are not ready for testing we may extend our training to accommodate the group or invite you to come back for the next fresh meat. Plenty of one on one training is also available. Skaters will not be eligible for league practice until they have the passed FM test. Wednesday integration nights will continue past FM testing given there is a trainer to oversee to help new recruits catch up to the group level.
JUNIOR DERBY
Junior derby is for girls aged 9-18 to train and learn what it takes to play roller derby. This is low-contact, but the girls still need insurance. Returning junior skater dues are $150 PLUS insurance (insurance is renewed annually) -Fresh Meat junior skater dues are $150, this includes insurance, and the introductory rate.
Junior Fresh Meat: Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30pm
Junior Practices: Tuesdays, 6-7:30pm

INSURANCE
Each skater is required to be insured. NCRD insures its skaters through CRDi (Canadian Roller Derby Insurance). The cost is $50/yr. CRDi offers extra insurance provided by The Pack is Here. Our NCRD insurance rep can help you chose what insurance option is best for you.
You will need to fill out the form CRDi Membership application 2015 Form C and submit your health card number. *Referees must also purchase insurance.*

COST
League membership is $60/mo.
LOCATION
Our practice facility is at the Old Navy League Hall and we bout at the Cambrian Arena.
Nickel City Roller Derby members travel from all corners of our fair northern city; Hanmer, Chelmsford, Azilda, Lively, Minnow Lake, Downtown, Wanup… we do it because we love it! There are carpool options between league members.
