NCRD’s Skating 101 Program

Our 6 week course will teach you the confidence to skate, stop, fall, jump, transition, and skate backwards!

These skills are basic skills and are the introduction to Roller Derby, or you can take the skills you’ve learned to the streets, skate park or attend our Roller Disco nights!

Are you already an experienced skater and want to join Roller Derby? Contact us to challenge the program in join NCRD’s roller derby team.

HOW TO REGISTER

Our learn to skate program is for adults 18 and up of any gender, any body type, fitness level, skill, or experience. We will teach you all the basics!

To sign up for our next intake, we require the registration form to be completed, as well as a payment of $70 to be e-transferred to finances@ncrd.ca. (Please note your First and Last name in the message section.) This will secure your spot in our program. Spots are limited to about 20 skaters per intake.

WHAT DO I NEED?

Equipment requirements include:

Quad roller skates (no roller blades, sorry…) Helmet Safety pads, including Wrist Guards, Elbow Pads & Knee pads Mouth Guard – thin, moldable mouth guards available at Sportchek *these items are available for rent (minus the mouthguard), however sizes are limited.

Purchasing your own equipment is encouraged.

LOCATION

Our practice facility is at the NCU Community Center (300 Wessex) and when we bout, it is at the same location.

Nickel City Roller Derby members travel from all corners of our fair northern city; Hanmer, Chelmsford, Azilda, Lively, Minnow Lake, Downtown, Wanup… we do it because we love it! There are carpool options between league members.
